My friend Nicolle Muller Dunnaway posted the following on her Facebook page, and I asked permission to reprint her words here, as comic books and women is a topic close to my heart (see my former blogs at EttaCandy.Blogspot.Com or AmyReading.Blogspot.Com)
By Nicolle:
“Growing up, the world of comic books was a guy’s domain. The stores were dark, hole-in-the-wall dumps populated by brooding, forbidding misogynists. Lakeside News was a place little girls did not go, according to my father. The one time I mustered the courage to enter a comic book store, I found nothing but testosterone fueled, superhero dribble. Flash forward to parenthood and now armed with a desperate desire to get my reluctant daughter to read something (anything), I revisited my local store. What a world for women now! Ringo loves Ms. Marvel and I read #bitchplanet. Ladies, if kick ass women struggling with patriarchy is your thing, check it out!”
Thoughts, Gentle Reader?
