Finishing a Novel

I’m in the “finishing a novel” stage of writing for Marvel Among the Demons, and Gentle Reader, it’s going slowly.  I have decided that I’m not crazy about some of the changes I made to the storyline, which means I need to backtrack and try to recreate my original premise.  Not enormously difficult, but difficult, all the same.

But there’s something magical about being halfway finished with a novel that leaves you in an anticipatory state.  What will happen?  I don’t write from outlines or notes; I just write, and then, I rewrite.  And rewrite.  And rewrite.  Ad nauseam.  So it’s not uncommon for me to be 52K words into a book and decide, to hell with it, I’m starting over.

I’m not starting over, not exactly.  More that I’m returning to the beginning, to the core of what made this book fun, and not as complicated as I’ve made it now.  We will see how it goes.

We shall see.

What are you working on, Friend?
